Report Foxwell NT510 BMW Pros & Cons – does 80% of factory systems can do

This is a real story, I initially bought Foxwell NT510 scanner for BMW only, hook it up to the BMW car OBD II port and very impressive with its service and maintenance performance.

Pros: As a professional technician, I will say Foxwell NT510 scanner tool can do roughly 80% of what our factory systems are capable of doing. For the price, it’s impressive. All the important service functions are there i.e coding, abs bleeding, battery register, DPF, injector correction and so on.

Cons: Here is what I don’t like, and maybe someone can respond if this has also happened to them. I have the BMW program installed. The only way to read any codes is to do the auto scan, which can take several minutes if you’re working on a late model car with 20 or 30 control units. It will give you the option to instead go into specific control units, but what you select ‘read codes’, a warning pops up that it is about to erase the codes and asks if you want to continue. If you select continue, it erases the codes without even displaying them or telling you what they are. So again, you have to do the complete auto scan and then read all the codes, you can’t read codes for a specific control module only.

This is a Chinese company, and sometimes words and acronyms are ‘lost in translation”.

Overall, it’s not a bad product.

Review Foxwell NT510 scanner GM Toyota Ford

Foxwell NT510 tool I’ve used a bit more and it’s done well. Keep in mind, $155 just buys the tool and enhanced software for one OEM…Each additional OEM (up to 5) has to be purchased separately for $60. I have Toyota, GM, and Ford loaded in mine. Without the enhanced upgrades, it’s just a cheap generic scanner.

Foxwell NT510 tool is VERY capable…when it works. I have had problems with it freezing up, usually while I’m trying to monitor some PIDs while using bi-directional or on a road test…kinda defeats the purposes of being able to observe values on the fly when that happens.

Also, like many lower cost tools…which is likely a hardware limitation, the sample rate is shit. Example:…I was attempting to view several starter enable/command PIDs on a cadillac the other day, and the tool would not sample fast enough to change the PID from “OFF” to “ON” in the time it took the engine start.

I can say though, that this is the best cheap scanner I’ve ever used. The company is good to deal with although they’re Chinese; the customer support is mostly worth. If you have a problem, they’ll refund the cost of the tool, but not the cost of your software, which is shitty.

I’ve used it to do a cam sensor reset on a 99ish 454 suburban, I’ve used it to do the ABS bleed on a handful of GMs and a prius. It performs the zero point calibration for the ABS/trac system on my 2003 4runner, and I was able to control the VVTi solenoids on the engine.

At this point, for the price, I would recommend it.

I have the Foxwell NT510, a Launch CRP129, and the AutoEnginuity with Asian and Domestic enhanced bundle. The AutoEnginuity is more capable and has better graphing and mode $6 data, but I find that between the Launch and the Foxwell and my scope, I’ve been able to solve the limited scope of everything that has come my way.

Experience Use Foxwell NT510 Toyota Lexus Scion

I Paid $155 for Foxwell NT510 multi-system scanner from www.foxwelltechshop.com, create a Foxwell ID through foxwelltech.com official website, register my scanner, update my scanner to the newest version, then download Toyota, Lexus and Scion car brand software (referring to the NT510 user manual).

Hook foxwell NT510 up to the Toyota one by one, all are good, Very impressed with its service and maintenance performance (special functions) i.e coding, abs bleeding, battery register, DPF, injector correction and so on, so it not only do basic OBD diagnostic.

Moreover, Foxwell NT510 is handheld scanner, all my diag tools (i.e Toyota TIS Techstream) are laptop based and it’s a bit of a pain dragging the laptop out and waiting for it to boot up, so having a standalone tool like this for quick & dirty diagnosis & resets would be pretty good.

Test most and all good, so I consider Foxwell engineers are the guys of their words. Here I attach here the supplier’s pdf, which are comprehensive including all the tested functions: ECU info, reade codes, erase codes, live data, freeze fram, active test and special function.

Tips: the guy promised I am allowed to add up to 5 car brands as I like, and they claim the working car brands incl. 1. Chrysler 2. GM 3. Honda, Accura 4. Hyundai, Kia 6. Land Rover, Jaguar 7. OPEL, Vauxhall 8. VW, AUDI, Seat, Skoda 9. BMW , Mini 10. Fiat 11. American Ford 12. Mazda 13. Maserati 14. Ferrari 15. Aston Martin 16. Volvo 17. Porsche.

  • Operation Guide:
You have to input all 6 digits together no spaces, someone may only enter 3 digit codes. Also the DME separates the 6 digits code for the injector into two 3 digit pairs automatically. There is a note in the prompts that says the last digit may be altered /adjusted by the DME.

Comprehensive guide:
the DME defaults to a low range of the injectors specs by -/+ 1 of the last digit of the set. That is normal. If you want the full range of the injector spec ie closest to the actual numbers displayed on the injector, then you need to offset entry.
Example, if you enter 477 and the DME changes it to 476, then enter 478 to target 477. If the DME adjusts to 479 then you will have to go back and enter 477 and 476 will be the highest you can go staying within the injector specs and not exceeding it.

  • If got prompt “the values were not valid” after save, following this guide:
Update the software for NT510 BMW scanner, then select your device first by VIN, it will load a pre profile. Then go back and select your chassis and model manually. Go to service and try entering the values again. You can also try saving each cylinder entry one at a time.

How to Use Foxwell NT510 Regeneration BMW X_E70 DPF?

Here is the tips help you Regeneration BMW X_E70 DPF by Foxwell NT510

If you have the DPF warning light on your BMW X_E70 dashboard, it could get expensive. The warning light indicates a buildup of soot which is not being burned correctly in the DPF system in your car. Your manufacturer owners handbook should show you how to burn off the soot in the DPF, however on many occasions it simply does not work.

A BMW Diagnostic tool is the answer to doing a forced regeneration. With the Foxwell NT510 scanner, DPF Regeneration menu let you perform the DPF cleaning to clear the blockage through continuous burning of the particulates captured in the DPF filter. When a DPF regeneration cycle is completed, the DPF light automatically goes off.

The DPF works on BMW X_E70 models:

Foxwell NT510 test 2003 VW Jetta ABS

I bought Foxwell NT510 scan tool to access the ABS system on my 2003 VW Jetta. I love this tool! I keep it in the car with me so I can demonstrate and suggest to others to buy one as well. I am totally amazed and how in depth this scanner can read and of all the extra features it can access in the VAG system. This is a MUST buy for anyone who owns a VW or Audi!

nt510-multi-system-scanner-with-one-free-car-software-91

Here is a not-true feedback:

I run an independent repair shop. Bought this unit after already getting the foxwell only for abs and air bags, that unit works pretty good for the price. After researching the NT510 I found it would be a good basic unit for our quick scans. On the foxwell website as well as the amazon ad it lists it for over 60 makes for US. The Unit I received only works on VW/Audi and the box it came in reflected this as well. I would have never spent the time on this if I knew it were only for VW/Audi. Seller should be required to disclose this on the amazon ad.

Actually:

Foxwell NT510 is available with 11 brands vehicles, you can choose one kind of below car makers for free, if you still need any of below software, you need to pay 60 GBP for them

Chrysler

Fiat
American Ford

After you receive NT510 device, it does not come default with no car software, customer can download one software for free from foxwelltech.com
